Recognition of Sex and Gender
The Sapience Group of diverse brands recognise individuals who may identify and be recognised within the community as a gender other than the sex they were assigned at birth or during infancy, or as a gender that is not exclusively male or female. Persons with diverse sexual orientations and or diverse characteristics are encouraged to identify as they so choose. Where sex and/or gender information is collected and recorded in a personal record, individuals are given the option to select M (Male), F (Female) or X (Indeterminate/Intersex/Unspecified).

The X category refers to any person who does not exclusively identify as either male or female, ie. a person of non-binary gender.
- People who fall into this category may use a variety of terms to self-identify.
- This classification system is consistent with the Australian Government passports policy for applicants who are sex and gender-diverse and Australian Standard AS4590 – Interchange of client information and complies with the Australian Government Guidelines on the Recognition of Sex and Gender July 2013.
eSignatures
The Sapience Group where possible use eSignatures (electronic signatures) to save our clients time and preserve their privacy. Our eSignature platform is managed by DocuSign. Electronic Signatures have been recognised by law in Australia since 1999, with the passage of the Electronic Transactions Act. Additionally, the Insurance Contracts Amendment Act 2013 (Cth) specifically allows for the use of electronic communication.

Under Australian law, a written signature (often called an ink on paper or wet signature), is not necessarily required for a valid contract.
Documents and contracts are generally valid if legally competent parties reach an agreement, whether they agree verbally, electronically or in a physical paper document. The Electronic Transactions Act in the Commonwealth, States, and Territories of Australia specifically confirm that provided certain requirements are met, and a relevant exception does not apply, contracts cannot be denied enforceability merely because they are concluded electronically.

Trauma-Informed Organisation (TIO)
Sapience is a purpose-designed Trauma-Informed Organisation. (TIO) This means we have reconsidered and evaluated all the components of our financial advice system through an understanding of the impact of violence and Trauma-Informed in the lives of people and those we seek to serve.

We recognise the need for Trauma-Informed Organisational leadership in Australian Financial Advice services
We understand;
- Trauma-Informed results in multiple vulnerabilities and affects many aspects of a survivor’s life over their lifespan.
- Trauma-Informed often 'affects the way people approach potentially helpful relationships' with professions like ourselves.
- Our work brings us into contact with adults who may have been impacted by any of a range of overwhelming adverse experiences, both medical and interpersonal in nature and caused by natural events and disasters
We design (and constantly redesign and improve) our systems of service by fully integrating knowledge about Trauma-Informed in a manner that accommodates the vulnerabilities of Trauma-Informed survivors
We strive to minimise the risk of re-Traumatisation when interacting with us and our services because we understand past Trauma-Informed can affect different people in different ways because everyone is unique. We seek to play our part in a broader environment of healing and support as people navigate the financial aspects of their life guided by us.
We’re guided by the principles of safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness and empowerment of our clients. Our team integrates Mental Health First Aid principles, Stigma and Discrimination avoidance, and promotes safe procedures and healthy ways of working respectfully with our clients throughout our organisation.
Our future: Sapience and our specialist advice brands and services will continue to demonstrate leadership and a commitment to compassionate and effective practices for financial services and insurance conversations as we continue to grow and develop our ability to better meet the needs of clients with histories of Trauma-Informed.
